Once a fortnight I have a lesson, the long term aim is to jump a small course, but we are taking it slowly as Star has never jumped and I only jumped about 15 years ago on a pony that LOVED to jump. All I had to do was stay on and he would jump anything.
Anyway, today I wussed out of riding because of the strong winds, so I suggested that my RI lunged Star, something that I can't do due to ear/ balance problems.
So Star was lunged in walk trot and canter, then a small jump was put up. Star hesitated slightly but popped over it. Second time she was much more confident. The session ended by putting two jumps up so there was a bounce between them she went over without blinking.
It was great just to watch my pony, she has some lovely paces and a very natural jump. Throughout the lesson my RI explained what she was doing and why, even though it was something I can't do easily myself, so I wasn't just paying someone to work my pony, but was actually getting a lesson still.
And the best bit?..
However much the RI praised her for doing something well, Star still turned to me, for cuddles and scratches to make sure that she was pleasing me too
So even though it wasn't the planned lesson, it was still a great one
