Enlightened Equitation Teachers - page two

Joy Morris EET (Level One)/Feldenkrais Instructor/TTEAM Practitioner

Milo Trinco

Joy is also a Feldenkrais teacher and TTEAM practitioner (P1). She has been riding for more than 20 years, with the last 8 being dedicated to the pursuit of knowledge of classical dressage. The initial impetus for this was given by attending Heather Moffett's Enlightened Equitation courses. She has two horses - Milo a 14yo IDxTB and Trinco a 5yo Lusitano stallion. She is currently fortunate to be helped by Dr Margaret Cox, Sue Nevill Parker (Arrow Equestrian), Erik Herbermann and Centro Equestre Da Leziria Grande (owned by Senor Luis Valenca, and where Joy has her stallion in training). Other teachers she has been influenced by include: Ann Hillier (RWYM coach and Joy's first mentor), Lesley Taylor (Balance), Wendy Price, Peggy Cummings, Mark Rashid, Alexandra Kurland, Leslie Desmond, Deb Bennett, Craig Stevens, Linda Tellington-Jones (and other TTEAM trainers), Vreni Booth (Feldenkrais) and Mia Segal (Feldenkrais).

Joy has found Feldenkrais lessons invaluable for her own rider development - her mentor calls it an 'amplifier' for progress. Feldenkrais makes the job of the riding instructor so much easier - a pupil who is aware of their body can respond with desired changes much more accurately than one who is still struggling to control their own body let alone that of the horse. Regular Feldenkrais lessons can improve posture, balance and co-ordination, all of which are vital for horse-riding. Joy's pupils report improvements in sitting trot, canter, equalising asymmetries and sometimes freedom from long-term back pain. Joy is based in Oxfordshire and can be contacted on joy.morris@lineone.net.

Nicki Elliott EET (Level One)
Enlightened Equitation Webmaster

Prieto Falcao

Nix, like many other EE teachers, has been obsessed with horses from a very young age and started working with horses at the age of 12. She started working part-time at an Anglo-Arab stud, helping with the day-to-day running of the stud and with backing of youngsters. She also taught herself to ride bareback on some friends' New Forest ponies. Nix has worked with horses either full or part-time for nearly 30 years. Nix has always been interested in helping difficult or "project" horses and ponies, working with a number over the years. She has also been fortunate enough to train with Sue Carnell and Margaret Cox.

Nix aims to help the horse and rider improve their relationship, both ridden and on the ground, using classical principles with additional "tools" such as clicker training to encourage softness, lightness and a positive attitude in the horse.

Nix is based in Hampshire and can be contacted on nix@enlightenedequitation.com or for EE related business 0791 710 8734.

Nick Dutton EET (Level One)

Nick always had a fascination with horses and ponies from a young age, which bemused his non horsey family who thought he would grow out of it! He spent every spare minute at the local riding school, like most horse-mad kids and didn`t have a first proper lesson until he was 12.

Nick was desperate to work with horses but was persuaded to get a "proper Job", and save up for his own horses. He schooled on several youngsters and sold them, and started teaching at the the riding school at weekends. He got his BHSAI and later rented a yard, gave up the "proper job" and ran a livery yard. Eventually the yard was sold, and Nick moved to another nearby and started a riding school, thus getting back into teaching. He was having lessons at a number of establishments, learning lots and attained his BHSII, but was aware of a gap in his teaching and riding.

No one would explain weight aids, which Nick felt this was very limiting. Then someone mentioned Heather, and he got in touch just as she was drawing up the EETT courses. Heather clearly explained all the things that had been glossed over for years, and has made a huge difference to his riding and teaching. Nick sold the riding school last year, now teaches freelance ... and still hasn't grown out of horses!

Nick is based in Warwickshire and can be contacted on dutty@bushinternet.com.
