  • I had a fabulous day, absolutely brilliant.

For me the personal highlight was seeing just how happy, eager and willing those seriously dangerous / no hope horses now were with him. Bargain basement reject horses that no other pro trainer would give the time of day never mind the care and attention tuned exactly to their needs that he has given them - and how they repay him. I was nearly in tears at just how much they wanted to give back. Really struck a cord with me

Carl should be the patron saint of dressage horses, because by golly it's a bloody lucky horse indeed that gets the level of time, personal care and freedom that his get when they are still his means of living.

  • Well said Larri just what I was thinking when I was there - Dave is one lucky boy to have gone there from Wales!!

Amazing day and what a wonderful communicator and teacher Carl is. He was so friendly and laughed and joked with us all. So many highlights and things to remember but there was an overwhelming picture of calmness, fun, relaxation without being solemn and austere. Horses were horses and treated with love and respect rather than force and brutality. I was talking to a friend about it and she said 'makes you wonder what goes on in some other yards' - none of that there - what you saw was what it was - brilliant!

  • It was an amazing morning :db:

As has already been said, his yard had such a calm atmosphere - all the horses were happy and relaxed, and a joy to watch.

Carl is a born public speaker!

    Lots to think about :)

  • I had such a wonderful day watching Carl and Charlotte and his girls ride and hearing how he was working with each of his horses in their various ages and stages of training and how he had been working through their  various training issues. I felt it was particularly touching when he told the story of Jane Bredins horse.

We all got so much from this trip n our car load.

My only regret is that I couldnt spend longer meeting up with and talking to other EE people.
Its not what you do, but the way that you do it.

  • I loved every minute of it, what a truly special place and special people. And how fantastic that he was so kind and generous when I asked him for tips on training the changes, his experience shine through when I said my horse was hot. So many trainers have said to get G excited but I just end up being carted around the arena! Can't wait to try Carl's tips :-D

  • I'd like to add my thanks to Carl, Charlotte and the whole team at his yard.  I have always admired his riding, but was so heartened to see what a great horseman he clearly is.  His empathy and common sense approach really teases the best out of each horse.

I wasn't expecting to be quite so moved as I was when he was speaking about the problems his horses have had.  When he gave us a history of Don Archie, whilst working him, I couldn't believe he was talking about the same expressive big horse he was riding around the arena.  I was almost ready to run out in tears, it was something that really resonated with Larri and I.

What a wonderful day for us, and I took away a great deal from it.  Little bits and pieces I will carry with me forever, for Quadi and future horses :)
