Well I think that this documenting of learning is a good thing that Ill be glad of as time passes, so I ahve decided to have a Cleo diary too.
Cleo has now been here near two weeks and Ive had two rides, lots of ground work and one longe?? session. Shes a sweet girl who would take the head honcho roll if allowed but between Toby and I keeoing our "routine" she has neatly slotted in at No 3 in the heirachy. Toby has been adamant that altough hes basically a herd wooss, his time of being the sole receiver at love, food and attention has bolstered his confidence and without being nasty, has kept Cleo in her place of "The most recent" and I ahve assisted and kept on feeding Tobes first and making Cleo wait for food. Shes more feisty an of course has a bit of a womans attitude and kicks up her heels but nothing strong enough to disrupt the status quo.
On my other post I wrote of her trying a spack (Buck-rear comb) and then falling in an unco heap on her butt!!! with me following neatly out of her way. Todat she tried it on again 3 times, you know that tempestous effort to rip the reins out of your hands and do the spin rear buck thing but she didnt acheive much getting yelled at which surprised her quite a bit and each time it was a little less serious in effort. After these I kept on pushing her buttons as I want it all out, to realise that when I asked her to do something and she responds like this that it wont get her any where. Mind you here I am on a putulant mare thats trying well to get me off I am thinking "Do you REALLy want to hurt yourself on another persons horse???" I keep on going because I feel that she is not particuarly serious in her application and think she is learning fairly quickly in how to pull her head in, she is now standing quietly by and large in stead of bucking on the spot when Toby is taken away from her (Via positive reinforcment & word association). She goes OK, my main focus is to get her mooving forward as stepping thu with her hind legs as she is pretty crab steppy in hind and fore which I think is a mix of very tight hind and sore fore hooves. I have the chiro comming out to see both her and Toby in next fortnight.
