Libby's Lungie Bungies

After much humming and hawing I bought one today as madam does not go well in sidereins no matter what I do. After warm up and a certain amount of" What on earth is this?", she went very well. Just a few minutes on each rein but definitely a happy bunny. What do other folks think?

Hi Mossy
Is it similar to the elastic training aid sold by Derby House and others? If so they seem to work for some horses and not others. A local instructor suggested I tried lunging Carrie in one. Carrie - big fat cob with a short thickset neck and shoulders meant to pull a trap - quickly worked out it was easier just to lift her head up and work against the elastic - LOL. But she will work happily in side reins - so just went back to the traditional method.
If it works for you stick with it. Providing they're adjusted correctly they provide a guide for the horse as to the correct outline to take when working forward correctly and aren't harmful like some other training aids.

I got one last year and have used it a bit. I like it more than side reins as it is a bit more flexibe, and easier to adjust. My mare goes well in it. My gelding however doesn't go so well, as he will just raise his head and fight against it (the same in side reins though). He goes better in the elastic training aid, attched to the girth, between his legs. They are not the same thing really, the lungie bungie has a coupling that you attach to each bit ring, and then the lungie bungie feeds through a centre ring on the coupling, and it is more adjustable. I think it should allow the horse to bend and move more freely.
You can ride with it also, although I haven't tried it, but I am sure it would be preferable to riding in side reins or draw reins which I have seen a lot of people do.
I like it and would recommend it., although I don't use it much now as I have bought a pessoa.

I like mine. Ben the brat pony works well in it. Henry horse just uses it to evade working straight.
