Hi,

Watched the PK DVD's a year ago and was inspired by their beauty.

Last week (for Mothers Day - a present for me from me wink   ) I treated myself to the new Walter Zettl boxset.  Expensive but SO MUCH information in there.  It is a teaching series.  He has also written a book which I should be getting soon.  Has anybody else heard of him?  Opinions anyone? Walter is excellent!!!!! My sister & I have both ridden with him & so has pintopiaffe. He has so much concern & appreciation for the horse. It doesn't matter what level you are at or if your horse is incredibly athletic or an Average Joe, you always receive the same quality instruction & attention that upper level riders do. He works with you on what you & your horse are capable of and improving it.
(He also has a very fun sense of humor! Like a grandfather who likes to goof on you a little bit but in a kind way.)

I would highly recommend him to anyone.  Cheesy

I don't know who he is--but this is the gentlemen who does his 'girthing up' in the same way that I do--so he MUST be good.

I keep reading about him on UDBB. He seems to be very good.

Where did you get his boxset of DVDs?

Another idea of present for my list, I already have:
- Philippe Karl DVDs 3 & 4
- an eventing Fhoenix saddle
- A Gaston Mercier endurance saddle
- And of course a second horse

I would be lucky if I get a book about horses thought  rolleyes

I have two of his videos and personally, I hate them!  They don't show him riding, unfortunately, but the riders that he does show seem to be your stereotypical competitive dressage types and I just can't correlate what he's saying with what I'm seeing.

However, at one point in the video, you hear him say, "drive, drive, drive" and I'm thinking, huh?????  I just don't get it.  I've heard such good things about him, but the videos I thought were terrible.  A great disappointment.  He probably needs to be seen in person to be appreciated, and I missed him in Colorado a couple of years ago.  Too bad.

I'm sure I'm missing something, so I keep telling myself to back and look at them again, and each time I give up in disgust.

Walter hasn't been able to ride for years unfortunately. His hip was broken in a riding accident. If I remember what my aunt told me correctly, a young horse he was schooling bucked & tossed him straight up. The horse managed to throw in another buck on his way down, met half way and smashed his hip.
Once he recovered, he was only able to ride side saddle comfortably. He rode this way for a number of years until his arthritis became too painful to continue. I have seen some really neat pics of him riding in his teens & 20's though!
