After going on Heather's course in January, it has taken me all this time to perfect sitting trot on my riding lesson horse Tammi.  I can do it - YAY!!  From just a couple of strides at the beginning, I can now go all the way round the arena and I dont bounce, feel like I'm going to fall off or even nod my head - my instructor (very traditional) tried to catch me out by asking " can you tell when the inside leg is coming forward then", and I was able to get it right every time - what a great feeling!  I couldnt stop smiling and saying as I was riding round - I've done it I've done it!

This may seem like a small achievement to all those who regularly jump and canter and gallop everywhere, but I had a stroke a while back and I'm not meant to be here, let alone ride!

Its more difficult feeling the movement through a saddle, but hopefully once I get my own horse in September then I will get a SBS saddle and that will hopefully help me.

Just thought I'd share! Cheesy

That is wonderful news, very well done - with horses it is so rewarding when you get anything right that you have had problems with, no matter how insignificant you think it might be to others.  Most of us have all suffered crises of confidence at the most basic levels and we all need encouragement and understanding to improve.

You have also conquered a potentially serious and debilitating condition not to mention fatal, and deserve many congratulations for your perseverance and determination!

Don't you think horses are great therapy - I have also had serious health issues and my horses have been the wonderful constants through some rough times.

Janice

Fantastic - well done -  brilliant.   I can well imagine the smile.  It is about confidence, cos having seen you on the equisimulator your position was really good.  When the time and the conditions are right the canter will follow.

Following on from the course I have started to ride my own horse Osian again, and though I still imagine every possible thing that might go wrong, at least I am back in the saddle.

Stay well

Best wishes

Nona

Thanks everyone - I'm still grinning!

Thats great Nona - well done you and Osian.  Now the weather is getting better, you wont have to ride near scary tractors as your field wont be so wet.  I'm sure we must have all been slipped some confidence syrup during our time with Heather as we have all made great strides with our riding, confidence, and technique.  Heather is worth her weight in gold!!
