Hi there, questions in the title really - has anyone used a vogue on a quarter horse? I've just bought a QH and she came with full western rig which is lovely to ride in but I'm struggling to ttack up because the saddle is sooooooooo heavy!! I have a new vogue that I used on my NF pony and thought I'd use that on the QH as well. I tried it for the first time this morning and it had alot of lateral movement. We went round the woods and it didn't slip forwards or back but felt distinctly like it would spin round if given half a chance. I never had this issue with the pony so are there any tips to solve this? I love the vogue but it felt quite unstable and obviously needs some fettling but I could do with some tips.
The reason I mention she's a QH is that apparently they are quite hard to fit a saddle to as they are quite different build to 'normal' horses, just wondered if anyone here had experience with one

many thanks

Not a QH, but I've had huge problems with lateral slippage on a round pony. He is too small for the Pro Choice girth, so that was half the problem (get one if you haven't already) but I eventually solved my problem by using a Geleze non slip pad.

I have and on mine it is fine. I have seen a lot of QH backs though and some are easy and some are more tricky, like any other breed. Does she have a wide ribcage, wide shoulders, or narrow? Smiley

hi there - this is the same saddle that I have used on countless horses. the above photo shows 8 different horses.
I have used this same saddle on
QH,
TB,
Appies,
Warmbloods,
morgans,
paints,
halflingers,
grade horses,
POA's,
ponies of undetermined origins,
drafts,
draft crosses,
from 12hh - 17.2hh
I have only had to make minor adjustments to padding/shimming (and rarely shimming). I usually use a breastplate (mostly cause I think it looks good and partially because of safety. I always use the professionals choice type girth - though with one mare I had to cover it due to severe allergies on her part. Rarely I have used shelf liner under the saddle for no wither horses to help prevent slipping.
only slippage issue I ever had was the time I forgot to tighten my girth (whoops) which thankfully was caught and documented on camera - by one of my students  doh
I only found one horse so far that just didnt like the saddle. And I have ridden a ton of horses in it.

Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated. I think I will definately get a Pro Choice girth and see if that helps. I've been using a Wintec dressage girth but obviously I need something with more grip. I am reluctant to use a breastplate at the moment ( her previous owner always rode in a western saddle with a very tight breastplate and it has left her with some muscle wastage where the staps ran over her shoulder blades and she is understandably very sore there) but it is something to consider for the future. She is quite a challenging shape really, very wide chest with big shoulders, very deep ribcage and long back yet she has a wither and isn't that flat backed at all!  It is certainly reassuring to know that the Vogue has worked on so many different types of horses, I love mine and would be loath to part with it

thanks again, will order a new girth and see how we get on
