That looks like a good idea but with two big "but"s.

Firstly - my god, the price!  Shocked

Secondly, it is usually the tap mechanism that freezes worst, so even with that, you'd have to defrost the lever.   sad
It would stop having to pour hot water down the pipe tho to unfreeze the part overground. Might be worth it on a yard to keep the main intake unfrozen - I think the drain off is the big thing, but you'd still need to insulate the workings at the top.

Kettle full of boiling water does it for me.... Price is a bit steep..

The pipes at LY are frozen most days just now, so i'm gong to take insulated lagging tomorrow to do them all. Trouble is you can only do to the ground. If we have hard frost nothing will stop the pipe freezing, so no matter what tap you have if the pipe from underground is frozen your stuffed.

It doesn't often freeze below ground, it is just the frozen water above that takes an age. On the very rare occasions it does freeze below ground, we have to revert to containers lugged from home.

hmmm the drainage around the connection certainly looks key....
boo hoo the cost is worth all the traipsing around with water barrels.

I have one!  It's brilliant... my luffly YO installed it just after we moved in last November.  The company that makes them have never had one freeze yet.  The only thing is, don't leave a hose in the trough or it will back-siphon all the water out overnight.. as my husband learned by accident  Embarrassed

How much would I love one of those at the  moment? My water has been frozen for 11 days now so I have been carrying all the water to the horses in containers  ouch

I need one of these for my house!  My water is currently frozen at ground level before it hits my stop cock.

My basement sure looks pretty though, all the walls are sparkly due to the ice on them!

We have them fitted at my mums farm, and they are fantastic, worth their weight in gold.

If they back siphon do you need an antisiphon valve. [water regs]We had to put one on the pipe to the outside tap,
