I've just sat and watched videos of a natural horsemanship trainer getting on a horse for 1st 2nd and 3rd time.  It all looked so rushed, I so much prefer the way you've done it, by building up such a rapport with Ziggy  Cheesy

Brilliant news, your style of backing sounds about the same as mine  thumbs (when I finally get round to it), it's so lovely when they just take everything in their stride  wub

I think If I was doing it as a paid job again I'd be slightly more organised about it, but he's my boy so no rush. Although saying that even if I had my own place and did it as a business rather than as a thing I do because I lurve it I'd still be more laidback than we were at the stud and on a strict timescale to get them in , started, backed and out hacking, popping fences and w/t/c in the school at the end of six  to eight weeks  rolleyes

There's a gelding same age on our yard who arrived unbacked roughly same time as Ziggy, he had the "usual" backing. Nothing harsh - lunging wall of death with a rider on, lots of lunging with side reins & schooling with the insistence on forwards, forwards, forwards etc,  just not my cup of tea any more. Mind you, he might be cantering in the school but he's still not out hacking on his own yet *smug*
