Pinto is my first pony  wub

I call him a pony cos I think he really is one :P  He certainly has a pony brain  whistle I bought him when I was 29, after my Dad died of leukaemia, I decided life was too short to go on having "if only"s.

I had been having private dressage lessons in Switzerland for about 2 years, and thought I could ride lol!

The first horse I ever sat on, was a big brown mare called Chloe.  I was about 12 or 13 and had eventually wheedled and begged enough to get A lesson for a birthday.  Having being horse mad all of my childhood (my mum wonders where she found me, as she hasen't a horsey bone in her body - I blame my dad, he grew up on a farm wink ) you can imagine my frustration when the nearest riding school was two bus rides away (my parents didn't drive).  So I had to content myself by reading every "Jinny" book, and every other horse book I could lay my hands on.  By the time I got to sit on a horse I "knew" ALL of the theory of riding... and yet, til I actually bought Pinto I hadn't groomed or tacked up by myself!

I'm so pleased I grew up and was able to have lessons in the times of if you fell off you dusted yourself off, and got back on, without having to fill in waivers and disclaimers.

Despite my "nervous nelly" status, I've been dumped, bucked off, bailed out, slammed into the side of the school and ran away with (come to think of it maybe that's the reason I'm a nervous nelly lol  rolleyes laugh ) and for the most part I wouldn't change any of it for the world!

Love this thread, all your stories are cool!

My first pony was Drummer  wub wub and I am very luck that he has a fab home with Helen whilst I can concentrate on Livvi, I do miss him though wub...I am like her and he was the pony I wanted at 11.

I learnt to ride when I was 12 so was a later starter, I had always been pony mad though.  My Favourite riding school pony was Honey, she was a fab little Dun pony who would gallop at the lightest chance and I adored her.  Then when I changed riding schools, I fell in love with Jaffa wub He was an 11ish hand chestnut cutie and I often wonder if Drummer was Jaffa reincarnated.

Thats it really for ponies I was really attached to although I have had several that I have ridden for others...........there is nothing like your own to love. wub

I brought my first pony at the age of 20 and he has a home for life with me, I began riding Charlie when i was 14years old at my local riding school and he soon became my favourite, he was a grumpy, stubbon, lazy pony but i knew deep down there was something truly special about him, he filled me with confidence in the riding school and did everything i asked for and more - he made me look alot better of a rider than i am......Then when i turned 17 and could drive i took him on part loan and i thought this would be the closest i would get to calling him mine, so the day my boss asked if i wanted to buy Charlie as she was going to sell him has he seemed fed up in the school without a second thought i said Yes and ive never looked back (well when he's been stood on two legs i have thought what the hell have i got into here - but over the years that as settled) Charlie is now 22, he will be with me forever and i am so lucky to live the dream of owning your favourite riding school pony, we where meant to be......
