http://www.piafferevealed.com/

Just watched this and I thought it was great!

Its made by Riz Ilyas who is a really down to earth guy who has trained quite a few horses to piaffe now including a pony and a donkey  laugh
What I love about the DVDs is that he starts right from the very basics of how to lead and get the horse to shadow you and works through every step to piaffe in detail showing several different horses at each stage.
I haven't come across any other DVD that does this, most just show the horses at the stage of a trot on the spot with no explanation of what to do if slowing the horse down and tapping his legs doesn't give you piaffe  :roll eyes:

Riz breaks everything down into simple, concise steps and shows how to work through any difficulties that different horses present, its so simple its brilliant!

He also comes across as having a great relationship with his horses and his emphasis is on rewarding them and motivating rather than forcing- he shows how switching to a whip with a different feel gives a better response rather than upping the pressure which I thought was pretty clever.

I would recommend this to anybody who works with horses, not just those who aspire to piaffe because so much of horsemanship is covered that applies to all of us.

Thanks for that link. Looks good.

Some of the guiders/boinkers/whips he uses are made by Alan Pogue -  and are so well weighted and crafted.

When you say it tells you all the steps to piaffe, are you talking about all the lateral work being included too?

Another thumbs up from me too! Riz is a friend, and also gives the Vogue a plug as he rides in one! But seriously, it is a super set, and really does give some wonderful tips on achieving a very good piaffe. So many riders think that they have to wait until Grand Prix before tackling such movements, but oh, how it improves the canter, the elevation in the trot and general collection from which comes true extension!

I recommend this to anyone who is tired of working trot and endless 20m circles, getting nowhere fast. It will change your entire attitude to training!! thumbs thumbs thumbs

Wow that looks amazing and what an inspiring man.  He has Lupus and as a result very bad arthritis in his hands, general joint pain and tires easily.

Sounds like it was written for me, so has gone to the top of my wish list for 2012.

Thanks IW for telling us about it.

Yes, it's a great set!  Did you notice that he uses IW's drawing to illustrate the tapping points?????!!!!!

His method is quite similar to Manuel Trigo's, but without all the under saddle exercises that Manuel has us do in preparation.  And speaking of which, when I do those exercises with Xino, he goes immediately into passage!  I guess that's partly how I'm going to get it on cue...!  I'm still wrestling with that one, plus he goes into Spanish Walk when I ask for Counted Walk.  Oh my!  I've lots to learn...

And a great plug for the Vogue!  Congrats to you both!

Totally agree with that Heather, B has much more bounce and elevation after just a few half steps.  nod

Lol Chris, Riz asked me for a simple line drawing and said it wasn't allowed to be special or people would be looking at that instead of listening to the dvd  laugh laugh

Riz has been thrown off more forums than he has had hot dinners, for being rather outspoken - he is even worse than me!! laugh But thats why I love him, he is truly for the horse, there is simply no b*****t with him, he calls a spade a spade, and is a genuine as the day is long. He has overcome his disabilities with great determination, and his absolute passion for his horses shines through in these DVDs. I particularly love little Nugget, the pony, who can even do capriole now! And Donkey, who was dumped on his place, and is probably one of the only donks doing Spanish walk!!

Me and Riz have had a love-hate relationship. But the guy is a 99.9% right. One of those people who you almost want to argue with. But like Heather says, totally for the horse. He's a nice guy Smiley
