I ride a horse in a Fhoenix GP using a high wither saddle cloth, and sometimes a rear riser prolite, everything stays put nicely, with no slippage  thumbs

So, I ride the same horse in a dressage Vogue and the saddle cloth and prolite slip back several inches. As far as they can really before the attachments stop them. This starts to happen within minutes of riding. I have also tried saddle cloth on its own, and an all wool high wither numnah (fits all the way around the saddle nicely), and same numnah with rear riser; the slipping is just the same.

I'm worried about rubbing as the front of the saddle cloth ends up under the saddle flap. The coat is not ruffled under the saddle though when I take the saddle of. Also, we look very silly with several inches of cloth sticking out behind the saddle  Embarrassed

The horse in question is up in front, hense the rear riser to balance the saddle, and has big movement.... he's also very overweight, and not in proper work  Embarrassed and has a forward girth groove.

Help please Smiley

Are you sure it is the cloth slipping backwards - could it be the saddle slipping forwards? Smiley

I only ask as my boy has a forward girth groove, and that is our issue Smiley Well on the way to solving it with Lou's help Smiley

Hi CTW,

I can honestly say I have never had this problem with any of my horses, and I havent been made aware of it with clients horses either. Must say it would look rather silly with inches of cloth sticking out the back! Shocked

I never, ever advocate using Prolite pads under our saddles as I just havent found they work, and do not help grip. This may well be the cause.

Give me a call on 07919 358244 to have a chat about it, as would like to help solve this! nod

I have this problem too with the saddle cloth slipping back -  noticably worse when i have been doing faster or collected/more serious work. I wouldn't say my boy has a big movement at all!

Had this problem too with a FreeForm i prevously had, to the point when i used once their specially designed polly pad with it i had to turn round and head home 5mins into a hack as it had come right the way out the back of the saddle there was about an ijnch still just about hanging on!

I ride in the Vogue Dressage too and balance with some sort of front riser due to my boy being slightly croup high i have used Heathers Wither pad and currently using the Acavallo Gel Front riser.

Would be interested to hear any outcome with your boy.

hi there, I had this problem with my vogue and solved it with a 'banana girth'. my horse also has a very forward girth groove and the saddle was being pulled forward as we worked.

My vogue travels forward on two of my horses, it's absolutley fine on Lass, in fact it's perfect for her, on Annie it travels forward a little but it's not too bad, but it's awful on Bridie, and the other day she was really messing about and it slipped sideways too  sad I've just bought a curved girth, so will try that to see if it works. If not I'm going to have to look at getting a different saddle for Bridie  sad

That's hopeful then, which girth did you buy?

Have you tried shelf liner between the cloth and the saddle? That works well  nod

Don't want to 'steal' the thread but do have a sort-of related question!
Every other saddle I've used on my boy has moved forwards due to him having a forwards girth groove, so he ended up with one of these http://www.dressagedeluxe.co.uk/Shop.asp?viewmode=vp&pid=814 which solved the problem! However, is it worth trying his new saddle (Vogue) with a 'normal' girth? When I tried one I just used our normal girth & it was fine, just wondered whether it would make a difference really? Smiley

We dont normally recommend leather girths as they can be a bit slippy, this is why we recommend the Professionals Choice which is really grippy. But there is another girth which one of my agents has been trying and says is very good, and cheaper too! I will give her a call tomorrow and let you know. If your normal girth is ok, then I wouldnt worry!

My nag tends to move the numnah out from under the saddle. It happens with any saddle although only when doing lots of hillwork/fast work in the vogue. Saddle stays put - it's very specifically the numnah/saddle cloth being moved back. She did it to the smart panel too rolleyes I found some of the net self liner worked wonders. She has a very forward girth groove and a banna girth did help with the sit of the girth straps but didn't stop her throwing the numnah away!

I have to be honest though and say that I have noticed if I am in pain and not riding very well that it makes it worse though so it is not just her! Embarrassed
