and how is it pronounced?

Is it giraffe volta, or gerroff volta?

We didn't do this in our BHS exams..

When I've seen it done in-hand, it looks pretty much like a turn about the forehand combined with a leg-yield.  I must be wrong though, as turn on or about the forehand and leg-yield aren't considered a gymnastic exercise and giravolta is.

Shoulder-in is the cure-all.  Cheesy

So I'm thick too, because I'm not sure what it is or how to do it either.  Heather will now shoot me, a) for not knowing and b) for admitting I don't know

Sue  laugh laugh

Fillipa Valenca did it with Bambu so I take her version but tbh I think theres a fair variation depending on what you are using it for.
You can use it to supple, especially the back, in which case its more of a leg yield in as much as the focus is more on steep crossing. Or you can use it to get the inside hind really stepping under ( rather than so far across) and taking weight in which case the focus is more on the SI angle on the circle.
Thats my take on it anyway and given that it seems to vary between folk like Fillipa, Anja and Hillberger ( sp?) who I would think all know what they are doing it seems a reasonable explanation.  Smiley
Fillipa also moves the shoulders and the Qs separately on a sort of circle.
Vid would probably be good, will have a look later.

This is a few seconds of vid from about 18 months ago.  She is a quite tense and finding it a bit hard but was only just starting out. We do little bits under saddle now as well.

in hand

ETA, we have now slowed it all down a fair bit now.  She was weak behind and doesnt have very good hock / hind leg confo but this exercise and lots of walking up and down hills has really helped build the muscles around this area.  nod

I had two pigs,
   Shocked

Issywizz can't tell the difference between piggies and bunnies, don't take any notice of her.  rant

He's not a pig, he's a 'ikkle Italian bunny rabbit.  You didn't watch it!  Bet you didn't have the sound on either.

You hear 'gira, gira, Braavo, click, nibble, nibble, nibble.'  It's so cuuuuute.  laugh

At the end he does a lovely levade at the camera, before doing his little giravolta too.

I was actually looking for a giravolta with a more attractive backside for us to look at than the Simon one you posted and got side-tracked by the cute bunny.   Embarrassed laugh
