Why Emma?  sad
I promise you my comment on backs was a general one and not about your vid, I wouldnt be able to tell without comparing the horse in both postures anyway, so please dont think that was a dig.  cc_confused

Casey, quote;
If the horse was wanting to go in this manner a lot, I would question if she was strong enough to carry a rider for the length of tiem she was being asked to.  IMHO (and in general - not related directly to this particular horse)

Good point and I would tend to agree.

To be honest if a horse constantly asked to stretch out and down, particularly if they were quite insistent or even violent about it, I would be suspicious of saddle fit.

Don't worry chaps, she didn't keep asking to go long and low like that, I encouraged her to do it for a few moments as part of her overall training.

I had the horse for her basic schooling, after she was backed and she then went on to compete successfully at dressage and eventing before being sold on for silly money, so no harm done.  Cheesy

 wallbash I've had a lovely day out and come home to find another thread gone south  sad no idea why you had to remove yourself Emma and I was really looking forward to seeing Z  cry I didn't take anything IW said as over critical  cc_confused I know she can be a tad ott and in the past I've had to slap her a bit  laugh but she's generally great at spotting stuff.

I received the email comment you originally made ref the SI on my vid  thumbs yep certainly too much bend but I blame IW (and an equine horse massage lady on an old forum we were on together about 5 years ago) because they encouraged me to use the i/s bend stretches on circles to help the back and as result I found that if you ride a SI style movement and overdo the bend (but essential you keep the 1/4's stepping under the centre) and avoid the head tilting you can let out each vertebra down the neck and then release everything down into a stretch on a circle  nod you then immediately change the rein and do it on the other rein until you have a horse that can stretch out and down moving from one rein to the other without the softness going, it works great for a cube with a short neck but I would probably use it with caution on anything longer!

Just to show the opposite (if you're still watching the thread) my 10 yo rode him the other day and whilst she doesn't overcook the bend she loses the hind stepping under  laugh and the angle.

Swiftly glancing back I liked the last post from Omar  thumbs must get reading my Decarpentry again  nod

Trudi, thats more like the benefits of the giravolta, yes? I find it really interesting actually to watch how much Bs back moves in the giravolta, its a heck of a lot.  Smiley

Yes pretty much although with the fence to ride against it's really helpful and you can literally 'feel' each bit of the neck unlock and give to you.
