I have only ever done one in hand show with jim, and although we won, I was convinced we were running too fast because he was rather out of control, he was running unbalanced.

Ive seen both fast trotting out or a more sedate run, cob men like the horse to 'fly', which is ok, but I rather like the idea of the pony being in more of a normal trot. ie one which would be used on a hack say.

With a show looming were practicing and today he was really good, we did 'normal', and extended.

So do we do a nice collected trot, and then extend to show he can???.

Plus what do people wear. I wore trousers and a jumper because it was freezing cold, and a waist coat, and leather hat.
Were off to Chatsworth on Saturday, I thought id find out first and possible buy something. Ive only got riding gear.

I had no idea that my jumper was so huge on the neck, good job the judge only had eye's for the pony!.

It's the show ring so you are showing the pony as an example of its breed/type: therefore if the breed standard is for a rather flamboyant 'flying' trot as it is for Welshies then that's what the judge will be looking for. Having said that its still got to be balanced! I don't know about Jim, I would guess that he would need to show his sure-footedness and stamina so it could be quite a strong trot.

The standard rule for in-hand is trousers the opposite colour to the pony so that you 'frame' the picture - ie light trousers for dark legs. Usually up top is shirt and tie with either fitted waistcoat or tweed jacket - I got a neat little fitted waistcoat in a charity shop - as long as you are neat and smart you don't need to spend a fortune.

It depends entirely on the horse and the class, no definitive answer I don't think lol! If you have enough of a run in the individual show I would show both  nod

I wear some fawn stretchy chino like trousers (charity shop) A cream show shirt (Equestrian clearance bargain) Tie (borrowed from hubby) and a russet waistcoat (ebay) or my tweed (ebay).... Get the theme lol!! Embarrassed laugh This is with a dark bay thumbs

Chatsworth had a lot to answer for. Pootled round with Jenny 'mooching', not 'really' intending to spend... much devil Anyhow, there it was.... and before I knew it, it was in a bag.
THEN of course it 'needed' a shirt, pink shirt, ££££££££ 'too much', before I knew it... that was in another bag......Oh dear..

But now I need trousers.

The jacket is cut away at the waist, and nipped in so it needs something not baggy... And the colour is one of those .. ummmmmm, beige or white?? but daughter says only get white when body shrunk to a 10!..Not much chance of that before Sunday!..

Ive got brown leather gloves,  and prob Dubarry boots, other boots are clumpy.
Why is nothing easy.

Boy 'needs' a nose band too, to fit to the bridle I had made for rocky that he never wore. So its off to saddlers tomorrow.
