Anyone have any suggestions to help a sad little whippet? Two months ago we lost Jack's lifelong companion, an older bitch that he lived with since we got him as a puppy. He was devastated. We brought him indoors to live with our "house" bitch - sadly she has been ill for 6 months and died a couple of days ago. Now we have to almost force him out of bed to come for a walk, and his sadness is palpable. We are down to one dog instead of 5 this time last year - my daughter took her whipinese to live with her when she got her own place, and his visits are the only time Jack perks up is when he visits. I know it's early days yet for all of us, maybe we will look at getting a rescue in a little while, but has anyone any suggestions to help lift his spirits in the mean time?

If you are not ready for a new dog yet, do you have friends with dogs that you can visit....maybe set up some play times?? Do you have dog parks?? I'm so sorry. It's really the saddest thing not being able to explain to them where their companion has gone.

Poor little chap I agree, he needs another canine friend, and if he perks up when he has contact with others it sounds as though he's ready to move on even if you aren't

I would advise a girl dog.

Thanks for replying - I think a trip to the local animal shelter is on the cards. Soon. I'll keep you updated.

I often think I went into the wrong profession! Poor little man - much healthier just to get him a new companion.
