wallbash Or I should say mouthpiece help.

Im not sure what to try now and need ideas. Kerrys mouth had totally healed and she has been back in work now 3 days, then we went for a hack today and when i checked after the ride her mouth was sore both sides right inside. Edges of the mouth where fine it was the fleshy bits right inside

At no point was she even at all strong or pulling. We had a couple of excited moments but she stayed light in the hand. Most she did was a bit of head tossing so she was coming against my hand abit when she put her head down(flies I think)

All I could think was that if her mouth was a bit dry the nylon on the happymouth caused friction. Iv seen it before where happy mouths have cause friction burns but that was in horses that pull.

Before that she was in a myler but thats what she had in when her mouth got sore last time.

Im not quite sure what do to, iv never had a horse getting a sore mouth before. Yet she is light in the hand cc_confused sometimes she does get keen in canter but I dont get into pulling matches. Normally I let her bowl along till she settles or change it and do something else. In fact she doesnt let you pull as she will just come back at you and bounce upwards rolleyes

Iv just been looking at double bridles thinking I could have the hackamore on the bridoon and then have a french link on the curb part. I have ridden her on that combo before and it worked but I have the bit tied to the hackamore with string  laugh

Erm i may have missed something but why do you need a bit? I would not be using a bit with a horse with a sore (or prone to be sore ) mouth but if you have to then i would suggest a nathe mouthpiece.

Hi jenny, I think it is the nathe mouthpiece causing the problem.

Hi,
are you using a happymouth or a nathe? They are very different, i don't really like the "happymouth " mouthpiece.

The nathe is white soft rubber btw not nylon

To quote "Nathe Bits give a more sensitive feeling to the horse's mouth but at the same time are soft and strong with flexible steel wire. Because of their outstanding gentleness to the horses mouth and tongue it encourages the horse to chew more. The allergy-free mouthpiece has been proven to be excellent for sensitive mouths. Chosen by many professionals."

They are not cheap though and easily chewed! But if you really do need a bit i would recommend something like this http://www.horsebitbank.com/nathe-loose-ring-snaffle-bit-2-352.phtml

i sort of meant rubber etc included with them as well. I do find while a lot like them they dont suit all horses just like any bit I guess. I know what you meant as dan went in one but kerry didnt like it

if you see above iv decided to try a hackamore with a bit for just incase  Cheesy
