Mine's a 500ml Pepsi bottle taped to the end of a carrot stick - well I know it would come in handy for something (and the savvy string acts as the cats toy  wink ). I like the fact I can hold it a long way away from me, so in the field she can follow it easily around me (free schooling here we come - just need to learn how to lunge first!)!

Just wondered what everyone else uses as a target?

Pepsi bottles do come in useful!!
At the moment i just use the one, a tennis ball stuck to an old jumping whip, home made things work just as well!!  :P

I use a 2-litre plastic milk bottle. Easy to hold, easy to see, plus if you want you can get a few and fill them with water/sand to place them on the ground.

I also use a white hanky tied on the end of a schooling whip and, if necessary, just my hand (but I don't recommend anyone *start* clicker-training with their hand as the target!).

A £2.50 orange bicycle flag - the sort to keep cars away from your pushbike.

Cheap, convenient, and very different (can tie it to a bamboo cane if you want a longer target)

Target hierarchy....

target on my hand.. two fingers held out.

Target on a "stick" - LOL have also found a good use for a carrot stick with an old bandage wrapped round the end to make a ball. Also used an old tennis ball ona piece of pipe (mara had a tendency to bite it off though).

Stationary target...  coloured chopping boards, hung on the wall.

here's a fairly old pic. of Mara "holding" on her stationary target...

Hi,
I've used a wooly hat, table tennis bat, stuffed glove stuck on a broom handle, end of a dressage whip!!!  Saw recently in Argos that you can buy a set of collapsable training cones (for footy practice) that look like they could be really good for clicker training.  Have also used the diddy traffice cones you can get with weighted bases.

Must say I like the idea of using a chopping board as a stationary target - ingenious!

Whats more you can get them in different clours (H&S and all that) - so if you want you can teach your horse colour discrimination. And before anyone says anything, it does work!

here's a horse that learned in about 10 minutes the difference between red and blue

I've been using a toilet cistern float screwed to the end of a broom handle!   It has lasted for 3 years, if not more, but sadly it died a death a few minutes ago as Osian managed to stand on it Shocked   I am going to replace it with one of the ideas above, so spoilt for choice not sure which one yet.

i use foot ball training cones, the small ones that you dribble the ball around, and my mare can target the end of the carrot stick, well infact she will target anything i point at and say target!!!!!!! Cheesy  the other day i pointed her at a jump in walk she went up to it, stoped, put one leg over it, pulled it down then walked over it!!!!! i was creased over laughing and she came over and stood perfect as if "iv got over the jump, why havnt you clicked and gave me my treat" lol it was soo funny!!! :P

I use a blue and yellow flag which is about 9 inches square and it is attached to a handle about 18 inches long.

Great for everything, touching,  physio stretches,  directional work  - pointing, following loading and it is light enough for my horses to pick up.

I can also stick the target handle in things such as the top of cones or in the hedge or on ledges  for to and from work  when I want my horses to move around more in the task before they get theor rewards.

I've found it very versatile
