Does anybody know anything about this?? cc_confused Never seen any of it here abouts.... Undecided

I've seen sentences that bring up the german, french and swedish school, or Vienna, Saumur and Strömsholm...  blink

Is there any individual attached to this school? Or a time period? Or a place?

What's it about? What defines it?

As I live in Sweden I feel as I've missed out on something.  ouch

Thank you.

I'm going to move this to Classical, as it is more appropriate there, and may generate more replies, wimble. The Swedish school was one of the main cavalry schools, and I would say is closest to the German classical school in practice. I don't think you have really missed much- pretty much all of the same ilk, but maybe others might have some extra to add? nod

Hi Wimble, I'm Swedish too  wave  Think Heather is largely right in her reply.  Haven't got time to write a long reply now, but there are some names you might want to look up: Baron Hans von Blixen-Finecke Sr and Jr, Henri St Cyr and Gustav Nyblaeus.  There are a couple of photos of G. Nyblaeus in the book "Classical Horsemanship For Our Time, by Jean Froissard, which is very much of the French Classical School, so obviously J Froissard thought there is some merit in the Swedish School.  I was suprised to find those photos when I bought this book, but they show Colonel Nyblaeus in 1955, jumping a fence in great style, as well as in a really rather nice piaffe, apparently on the same horse, on the same day.  In my personal experience though, the Swedish School, if there is a such a thing nowadays, is quite germanic.  So I moved to England (20 years ago now, though), and discovered other things, and then went to train with Heather!   Cheesy

Var i Sverige bor du?  Mina föräldrar bor i Småland och jag åker dit minst ett par gånger om året.

Hi Anna  wave.

Got all of those names covered (grew up using Podhajsky's The art of dressage as a picture book  whistle) and mom has always been a big fan of the old military (and has been taught by quite a few of that type if not of that calibre), and of course Daddes website has alot of information http://www.jakobslund.se/dadde/start.htm (sorry only available in Swedish).

I was mostly wondering about it since I saw it mentioned in such a specific way, but I'll survive  laugh. I know one Anna Backman (you? whistle) is doing research on the Swedish history of riding (there has been quite few very interesting articles in Hästfocus)

Try to avoid looking at contemporary (including Swedish) riding now a days, always feel like I should wash my eyes out with soap  wallbash.

Jag bor i nv skåne, strax söder om hallandsgränsen  Smiley.
