Has anyone got it / read it?

I'm quite tempted to buy it - it looks really interesting!!

I haven't seen this book, but I had 2 other Andrew McLean books which I bought from Australia.

I bought them to suss out what all the fuss was about in terms of what was so different about his "scientific" approach to horse training.

I read both books, and am still none the wiser what it is that they think they have come up with which is different to other training styles.

I sold them both asap!

Oh, and I only saw one video of Andrew McLean's son, Warwick, at a colt starting competition, and I'm afraid I was singularly unimpressed with that too.

However, you never know, this book might be amazing!

Saw Andrew McClean clinic a few months ago, I thought it was a cross between NH and BHS - OK but wouldn't go again.

read a bit, though it was very simplistic and utterly ignorant and that the authors don't have near enough information collected to write about anything as of yet. This is meant to be a scientific book, where everything they present has been proven by acredited studies, or at least is deduced from some, however, this field is very new and there must be very little money invested in it so the data available is not enough to write a book, they should've stuck to editing a compilation of published articles and end at that instead of dancing across vague ideas and having the nerve to strike other similarly "vague ideas" that did not come from them as anecdoctal...

in any case, I ended up having a clash with ash on the account of discussing this book so nothing useful came from it. I'm a human of peace. Klaus Hempflng (almost) all the way. I'll stay out of this "science" thing untill it grows a bit further. I'll stick with exercise phisiology and anatomy wich are thoroughly better studied and are wonderfully put by authors like Philippe Karl or Dr. Gerhard Heuschmann.

I do recommend it to professional riders though. At least the methods implied are safe enough for the horse and seem to avoid "unnecessary" abuse, even if they treat it as a retarded cockroach... but I've heard some horse breeds aren't particularly inteligent or easy to teach so maybe these are based on those breeds... though why do I always get the feeling that the one on top is the retarded one...

I was bought this for Christmas and so far I really like it. Maybe this is more McGreevy's work? It covers a wide range of subjects. I am only two chapters in though... Smiley

My riding instructor went over and trained for a few months with Andrew Mclean, although she does seem open to other trainers ideas as well.  I was thinking about getting one of his books to read so I would be interested in what you thought when you have read it  Smiley

For you I would recommend the Academic Horse training Book, not so much of the science and much more of the how to and why. Very much a step by step guide, very thorough and clear about what it's trying to help you achieve.

They aren't re-inventing the wheel they are just stating a case for works from a studied scientific peer reviewed basis...and why it works. This I think helps owners and handlers get to grips with why certain methods work and why some don't. Reading it in conjuction with seeing him work was a very rewarding experience.

Belbe's old post does make me laugh, the authors are two of the most highly qualified and rated Equine Scientists in the world  rolleyes
