Update is that I still continue to warmup with some spirals with reins in one hand, and it really seems to be setting the stage for Amigo and myself to enter the main part of our workout without so much dependency on reins. I can't sing the praises of this one-handed riding enough for people who tend to make too much use of that inside rein and not enough of the outside rein.  Smiley

Very traditional riding and WE in POrtugal is done single-handed.

I find it hard as it requires accurate control of your body, to be well in balance, well-centered and to use body weight and leg aids with greater accuracy.

On the other hand, I find the horses flows better when ridden single-handed.

My trainer uses a lot just the curb bit rein when working single-handed for finer exercises and when training with the bull-on-wheels.

cry This is when I miss rocky the most, when I read things like this, and remember what I lost.

He was a wonderfully responsive horse to ride one handed. He would spin on the spot, and change legs on the tightest of circles. Ive never ridden a more active and athletic horse.
He was a whizz at responding to my body movements, any changes of position or shift of weight would have an instant response. cry cry cry cry

Im sad now.
