Just catching up on this and as I read through I came to the conclusion that Flintfootfilly does above.
I seriously think there is something physical going on and would add ulcers to her list which is in a good order.
If you were to work through that list and come as far as the vets examination then I personally would take him to an expert with equipment for scanning and x raying the whole horse especially back and neck.
Has he ever had basic neuro tests done? as I would consider that very seriously and its easy and cheap enough to get done by a half decent vet.
I understand your frustrations but I dont believe that *any* horse is 'bad',they just cant talk to us.
If you are feeling this frustrated then you should definitely have a break from him as all the negativity will do neither of you any good
