its really hit my Dad, Spike has been his companion more than anything these last few years. Often the 2 in allegence against my mum lol
He was an oddball dog, we rescued him as an 8 month old pup who was being left alone in a small flat for up to 18 hours a day then being beaten for making a mess in the flat, the shop below often herd odd thuds it was usually Spike jumping to catch flies or throwing potatoes about to entertain himself.
I feel he was fortunate to enter our lives and we were fortunate to have him.
Spike could be aggressive towards some men and there were incidents that in someone elses care he may have been PTS for this behaviour.
I'm so proud that my parents persevered with him over all these years on his terms he was a very affectionate man, often thinking he was a lap dog in his younger years, causing many dead legs for the lap he had chosen to occupy.
My only hope is that their other dog Deefer who has only known life with Spike and absolutely adored him and despite being 1/5 his size bossed him about like any good wife should will learn to live without him
