Tractors are Caspers big fear too - interestingly he'll not bother when the pass by his field while he's grazing(we're surrounded by working farms) but when I try and hack him past those same tractors, even when they aren't running he is terrified.

I've tried the, stop and let him look method but he does try to reverse.

I've tried getting off to lead him past which as worked although in one instance he reared right into the path of the tractor.

I've also tried, when possible asking the farmer if he'll let me walk the horse up to the tractor but only managed that a couple of times.

Interestingly it seems to be specifically tractors - we've been passed by larger lorries etc adn he doesn't bat an eyelid!

Some interesting responses below!

I should add sing!

I sing all the time[ poor horse] Ive learnedthat if I sing not only does he relax so do I. You cant really be holding your breath in sheer terror if your taking deep breaths in order to sing.

''Oh what a beautiful morning''   summer song....
''Jingle bells''     winter song.....
