Hi there, I am looking at getting one of these to try for Jinx. She currently has an Ideal Working Hunter in a wide fit, but she is beginning to out grow it. I am going to get a Fhoenix / Vogue Consult later in the spring but even if one of Heathers saddles is going to work for us it will take me a few months to save up the money to buy one. The normal wintecs are just not quite wide enough and also she needs a slightly flatter tree. Any one tried the WIDE in comparison to the normal wintec and find them better for fit on a wider horse, the panels look a better shape but I have only seen them in photos. Also are the seats a lot wider, I dont have very wide hips Although I do have an HM seat saver. Thanks Janet

I had a saddle fitter insist the wide Wintec would fit Gen ( He doesn't look very wide but he is ) , even with the largest gullet in it still didn't fit him much to the saddle fitters annoyance. He also said the tree was the wrong shape for Gen . I am happy to stick with my SBS until I can afford a Vogue. Might be worth a try for Jinx but it didn't work for me.

Thanks ladies Was the tree still too curved like in the normal wintecs or was it too flat? Tried a wintec VSD on her today in an extra wide, the width wasnt bad but the tree shape wasnt right. Not far off though. Might see if my saddler can widen the tree in the Ideal for her then. He has already adjusted the flocking as much as possible.

If you're after a temporary saddle and looking at the Wintec Wide it may be worth trying the thorowgood cob as well - the tree is a different shape to the wintec so one of them might fit her.

Thanks for that, she does have a bit of a wither so might not suit. If you're after a temporary saddle and looking at the Wintec Wide it may be worth trying the thorowgood cob as well - the tree is a different shape to the wintec so one of them might fit her.
The first saddle I bought her was a thorowgood, one of the new ones with the changeable gullet, it seemed very good for fit and was a nice saddle but first time I leant over her before backing she reared up vertical When I took the saddle off it had rubbed the hair behind the withers. I never used it again and she has never reared again. May be best just keeping to in hand work etc. until I can get something more permanent sorted

Thorowgood are now making what they call the "cob plus "range..which has slimmed down front panels etc and is meant to be for the most difficult to fit horses have a look on their website ... Kent and Masters akso do the same in a leather version and there is another company they sent me who did leather ones but they were more expensive and i can't remember their name at the mo.. I had a Native saddle company for jasper once which costs more than he did and it never fitted right .. they were useless!!! so sold for a loss and bought a trekker treeless just so that i could ride ... now have a fhoenix but it is my other horses and it is too big for him really ... have tried the wintec wide was not to bad fit wise .. have also tried VSD version in XW but just not wide enough and did not sit right at the back... i am in the same boat and think i will try either cob plus or wintec wide again.. or poss saddle company although flaps never seem long enough in those... Good luck ...

How much wither does she have? I wonder if the Strada C fitting might suit.

Yes have looked at Strada, if Fhoenix or Vogue not suitable for her will def try one of them, look like very nice saddles. The other one I really like is the semi flex. If I cant find something good fitting in the meantime I will prob just not ride and continue in hand etc but dont want to leave it too long, just need to win the lottery!

Hopefully I will find something adjustable or treeless that will do her for life I am trying to avoid having to keep worrying about and buying and losing money on saddles like I have in the past. My OH is horrified that all these makes of saddle cost double what the horse cost to buy I keep telling him that it will be cheaper long term
