Seems 'passagey trot' is now the requirement in competition

To quote Maria Eilberg in H and H last week, speaking about the 8 yr old stallion, Woodlander Rockstar:
'...he's clicking into a more passagey trot now- hes got to learn to sit and wait more'. So reckon that's official, the passagey trot, once so marked down, is now desirable if you want to get to the heights of dressage.

Yes,Fillipa Valencia was training her competition horse to do it too apparently-not what she would normally train.

I trained Fanta to do it, just as an experiment, to see if he could do it with his not very great conformation. He could, but I felt it would be an enormous strain on his joints and discontinued it several years ago.

Why on earth some people bother with years of correct training, when they can just go out and buy a Hackney and get perfect 10's ... (oops did I really say that

So they have effectively invented a new pace then?

Yes, I think they actually have, Mandeigh, think of it as a sort of 'working passage' as it is much more forward but with near the elevation of the passage.

Edward Gal talked about it too,he said he never worked it at home because it put a lot of strain on the horse-obviously it has to be trained originally but I suppose he meant he didnt practise it too much.

I don't geddit. Why? Is it just fashion?
So when a test says working trot is that not what they are asking for any more (LONG time since I competed).

*suspension* seems to be the win-all thing nowadays, because it has the "wow factor" i think. the more 'hang time', the better the marks
. <shrugs> just LIKE fashion, a trend that is shallow & potentially dangerous for the horse imho. top warmblood breeders seem to have the goal of producing genetic passage-machines now as well

Yes you are 100% right Trish, it is suspension, which they say is 'expression' which is the be all and end all of competition dressage.

Lucia-no,working trot still means rush around as fast as you can
The passagey trot comes into play when colleced is asked for.
