A Modern Master- Juan Diego Garcia Trevijano

There are some clips of Juan Diego on the Inspirational Riding clips thread, but having been discussing him on Classical Dressage forum this week, I really thought he should have his own pinned thread.
His seat is absolutely exemplary, an Olympic show jumper as well as a Classical Master, so therefore one of the few, truly all round horsemen to the highest levels. Spanish but based in Northern Portugal, Juan Diego to me displays the highest qualities of lightness and ease in the video clips. The two horses Marduk and Escuteiro are both 22 in the clips, and could be mistaken for half that age. The fact that they are still able to perform such demanding exercises with ease, is testimony to true, classical training.
It is all the more remarkable that Juan Diego is largely self taught- not apprenticed to a Master as would normally be the case. He had lengthy conversations with Dom Diego da Braganca, the Portuguese Master, but did not train with anyone as such. To have managed to train to such levels without being under the auspices of a Master is truly astonishing. I am not a great fan of the 'Fantasy Airs', canter backwards etc, etc, although this demonstrates the breadth of his skill. The only other living person I have seen perform these airs is Mestre Luis Valenca, another of the few true Masters left in the world today. I hope to find time to get back to Luis for more training myself next year, as I am woefully short of lessons for a few years now, since having Rei home.
Juan Garcia's website is
www.equinveste.com
, also type Juan Diego Garcia Trevijano into search, for clips on youtube.
I am hoping that it may be possible to bring him to the UK for a clinic next year.

Thank you for this
I think now I have finally found out the rider of one of my most favourite clips ever 'exception al spanish walk' Marduk.
I'd not been able to find anything about the rider before - fabulous

Thanks for this thread Heather he's amazing!
When it comes to clinics do you have to be at a high level of training to go?

I think he would expect a reasonable standard of riding, not novice in other words, but will ask him!

me....!
Just been sent details of a clinic with Francisco Bessa de Carvalho in January - but at £195 for 2 x 50min lessons over 2 days or £290 for 3 over 3 days, not including stabling, I'm a bit
at the price of a lesson!!!
Here's hoping the cost for Juan would be a little lower!!!

Would Rija and I be good enough?
If not, will spectators be allowed?
