when you are in a board and you have a list of threads/topics on the screen, would it be possible to make it so that as you hover your mouse over the title of a thread you get a small hoverbox thing (sorry not technical!!) appear showing start of thread?

It's okay if not obviously, but I know other forums which have this and it's just a handy thing to have - I don't think anybody posts on EVERY thread, and sometimes to find the ones you do want to post on you end up opening most of them to read what each is about...When you preview via a hover you don't need to open each and every one, just those that sound relevant/interesting.

Sorry, if this is awkward, or there is a reason it's avoided! Embarrassed

Danger Will Robinson! Procrastinating geek alert!  wink ...

Out of curiousity I decided to see if anyone had implemented that functionality for the forum software EE is on.... It looks like it does not come as a standard option, but I see someone has developed a mod which does what peaches is after, and which is meant to be compatible with the current version of the forum software.    So peaches, I'm not the forum staff in any way shape or form, but if they have the time to investigate how well the mod in question works and to integrate it it is possible
(maintainer(s) of EE, it's at http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=263 if you actually have time to look into it!)

OK, back to reading up on Lucene indexes for distributed cloud applications with me then...
