Has anyone seen the DVD  Movement Awareness for Riders by Eckart Meyners or read any of his books - are they 'how to ride' or a fitness type programme? He has devides some programme called Balimo (balance in motion) but there seems to be very little info available about it (I think you have to pay the money first which always makes me suspicious!)

Sorry, no Amazon UK link to the DVD.

If this is the one with Heike Kemmer, I just ordered it and will let you know when I get it.

I actually have a balimo chair. It is sort of a piano stool with a ball bearing right in the middle of the seat. Sort of like sitting on a stability ball excepting a lot LESS stable.

I've been laid up from surgery and went to sit on said chair last week and was pretty horrified as to how much my core stabilization had deteriorated, so decided to get the vid and start some exercises.

You can find several threads about the chair on UDDB, i think.

 Undecided  Undecided

The main portion of the video seems to be a translation from a clinic with some fairly high level riders.

The conversation is in German with a voice-over English translation. The first 45 mins seems to be a clinic with some high level riders.

Most (if not all - havent watched the whole thing) of the exercises do NOT use the chair - they are either done sitting in a regular chair, or lying on the ground.

I WILL say that you could see a definite difference in the horses' ways of going as he loosened each rider up.

I will also say that I tried a couple of his 'loosening' exercises and could feel a difference.

I will ALSO say, however, that many of the positions look extreme enough that if the exercises were not performed with control, or if one had an underlying medical condition, that one could hurt oneself pretty easily....

I have it and wasnt greatly impressed. Several friends who have seen it and are either physios or Bowen therapists, reckon some of the exercises are likely to cause damage!! I cant comment as I am not an expert in this field, but I wouldnt rush out to buy it.
