Our EE agent in the Czech Republic, Barbora Kalinova was over a couple of weeks ago for a saddle agents workshop. She was then to meet someone from a feed company called 'Fibre Gold', as she intends to import it into the Republic. Robert Fowler, the representative, called here to pick Barbora up, and left me with three sample bags. We have been using the feed, the horses love it, and it is so convenient.

It is a complete mix, and when I say complete, I mean complete!!- all vitamins etc included, so no need for expensive feed balancers and or vitamin/mineral supplements. It is totally grain and molasses free, and there are several mixes to suit horses in all levels of work, ideal for laminitics- Fanta and my old Arab Spanish Silver are both laminitics- and perfect for a horse with gastric ulcers- which Rei had, and we dont want back again!

And as Robert lives in Portugal, about 40km north of Golega, (although the company is  based here), and has a very nice Lusitano stallion, and is crossing him with good warmblood mares to produce Portuguese sporthorses, much like my new horse, Qomplexo, it is even more fitting that we tie up with Fibre Gold! I have told Robert we expect pics of his horses as mandatory!! thumbs

So, (at my suggestion- no pressure from the company) in return for my promoting Fibre Gold, we will receive feed for my horses, which is a real help. I have to say, feed doesnt normally spark a lot of enthusiasm in me!!- there is usually so much hype as to why we should or shouldnt feed this or that, but this caught my interest as soon as Barbora mentioned it to me.

As you know I do not recommend or promote any product that I do not believe in totally- I would not compromise my principles under any circumstances, even if the company were to pay all my bills in addition!! But I really love this feed, it  and it is a relief to find a feed which I know is truly suited to laminitics and ulcers, and which is readily accepted by all my horses.

The integrity of those who run any company that I deal with, is paramount, and Robert immediately struck me as having total belief and passion in his products. This for me, is very important. I liked the fact too that Robert was not in any way a pushy salesman. He explained the concept clearly but without pressure, and left me with several sample bags to make up my own mind.

So I very much look forward to collaborating with Fibre Gold and I will do my best to promote the benefits!!

I am VERY interested in finding out more about this Heather - I have been feeding mollasses / cereal free diet for years now but have yet to find a complete feed to use.

Is there somewhere I can find out more about the various different feeds along with ingredients lists?

Thanks

Congratulations Heather!

It looks very good. I wonder how much you have to feed to get the right amount of nutrient.

It seems to have a good range of ingredients in it - looks like you might have to feed quite a lot though?  I only feed a 1/2 pint cup a day at the moment!  It's got Magnesium in it as well which is a plus.

Hi

I'd also be interested to see how much of you would need to feed. Currently mine are on Redigrass and Topspec and it suits me fine as they live out 24/7 and are good dooers so don't need masses of feed. I top this up with alfa beet in the winter to keep the weight on as well as Haylage when it freezes. I did use Simple Systems for a time but find top spec far easier to use and the horses look better for it.

Also, for Shoveltrash, I have two Lusitano x Warmbloods and they are fantastic horses! They have the brain of the Luso and the movement of the Warmblood. They are very clever and great to work with. I wouldn't change them for the world and I only regret not getting another one, their brother was for sale a few months back and I was very tempted. When I went to see them he was the one I would have chosen to buy but he had allready been sold. For me they are an ideal hose, not as hot as a full Luso but much quicker than a warmblood and they are very versitile. If you're on Facebook you can see pictures of them here http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=12553&id=1193422835#/album.php?aid=12553&id=1193422835. I will have to get some more recent ones of them and some video as well soon.

Well the two laminitics dont get much, but Rei needs a lot of feed, at least in comparison to most Iberians, to keep the weight on him. There are several levels of feed from the retired/laminitic/ horse in light work, through to competition spec.

I was feeding Topspec feed balancer and going through a bag every 10 days, in addition to all the other feeds- Fibre Gold has Yea-sac in it, same as Topspec and also Grazeon, which I use in the feeds instead of chaff as it is much more palatable. I do feed additional linseed and linseed oil and would probably continue to do this, as it has kept Fanta free of his allergy lumps, well, cant think of any other changes that would have contributed to this, so can only put it down to the linseed!!

But I would reckon on a bag a week for an average horse, but that is everything in the one bag, no umpteen dustbins full of feed, extra supplements etc, etc, and that has to be good value, never mind the convenience, and I love that aspect too!! It is also a big plus for me knowing that Robert and his wife Christene, also know and work with, the Lusitano horse!!

I have to say I'm keen to try, and from a convenience point of view being able to ask anyone to feed her and to be able to say just stick x number of scoops in bucket & place at horses feet would be heaven!! (and could be a godsend in the following months!)
may have to palm off my hifi onto someont to free up a bin lol
