Hoorah, yippee getting my new lovely old neddy on Sunday...cant wait, feel like a little kid on Christmas Eve. Cheesy

I have been thinking about how to start work with him, the idea being that we need to get him fit - as he has not been worked much lately - and get used to each other at the same time.  Here is my initial plan of how to start - obviously we will see how it progresses and maybe make some amendments as necessary - but its a starting point

Week 1
Hacking starting at 30 mins walk and building up to 1 hour by the end of the week

Week 2
More Hacking starting to introduce some short trots and building up
This week will also start on groundwork - just very simple obedience type of work ie learning to move from my commands, come towards me and move away depending on my voice commands and body language

Week 3
Building up on the hacking also including some trotting up hill / hillwork
Ground work building on the above
At the end of the week introducing some short canters

Week 4
Introducing some short flatwork schooling sessions

Week 5
Perhaps some jumping and gridwork or polework introduced this week

Week 6
Think we should be ready for a local level competition - but see how we go
(Of course the season will be over by then  Cheesy )

Sorry for the longwindedness (is that a word) just thinking aloud really.

If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Cass

PS - photos asap - I promise.
