with recent happenings, i've been spending more time with my 3y/o PRE, Nico
"Copernico ROY"
so i figured it's time to start a blog for him wink

i got Nico at the tender age of 6 months........he was a funny looking thing
(long ears, resembling a baby mule laugh)

but he showed alot of potential!

more and more, Nico is looking like his father, Dobladillo Cheesy

and maybe one day we'll have him looking like grandpa, Endrino!

early on i did lots of groundwork - Nico is so easy, has such a wonderful easy-going temperment that he has been a dream!  when i first got him, he was 'wild' -- had not been handled at all.  but now he accepts everything with grace, curiosity, and intelligence.
my favorite photos of him are in my signature strip wink - taken last year.  i predict Nico will be totally white in the next few years......he is graying at a very fast pace, and loves to make himself look "coloured" with poo stains! laugh

my plan for him:  this winter i will start a regular program of lungeing to build his back muscles, and make him strong enough to begin under saddle work in the spring.  i took Nico to visit with Erik Herbermann this past spring......where i received guidance to prepare me for this.

in the meantime, Nico and i are spending quality time together  hug.  grooming, taking long walks in hand, down lanes, thru fields and woods, preparing him for the time when i take him out under saddle.
Nico is a DOLL.  loves cuddling, & is the sweetest horse i've ever had!  he's so receptive to whatever i ask of him, it's uncanny.

no doubt this blog will have very few updates for now, as we aren't doing much.

but i love this horse dearly wub, and feel that he deserves his own journal Cheesy.

Fiona Nico is a gelding, a BIG one.  he's grown into those ears.....at 3 1/2 he's about 16hh+.

he is my "horse for life," of that i'm sure.

i'll try and update periodically with some piccies - i need more recent ones!  that last shot was taken with winter fur still hanging on laugh.

a quick update
(and a sincere "thank you" for the kind words hug )

i'm having a BLAST with Nico!!!  we've hand walked all OVER the place - one day we walked 45 minutes down the road, to another facility that has an indoor school (a nice one!).  Nico was SO GOOD!!!  just for fun, i'm bridling him now for our walks, and putting his headcollar over the bridle for leading.

saddling and girthing practice is starting up too! Nico isn't too sure about the whole girth thing, but he improves with time.

AND..................
i got on and RODE for five minutes!  not something i'm going to do regularly, but i figured "why not?"  he was a star!  i 'explained' the rein aids in hand for a bit of flexion, and turning, and er stopping.  he GOT IT (although he's very *forward* and didn't want to stop at first laugh).  Nico is so so willing - he offers no resistances whatsoever, unless it is simply from not understanding what i'm asking.  once he understands, it's almost like he is proud to show me he can do the things i ask hug.  we finished with a beautiful halt wink.

i have also started a regular lungeing program, only for fifteen minutes MAX, just a couple days a week.
my biggest goal is to keep that wonderful attitude fresh ---- i don't want to tire him, nor sour him in any way.

this is SO EXCITING Cheesy

Nico sounds like such a star and he is so beautiful  wub (I know I keep saying it but he is!!!!  laugh)

Sounds like you have an excellent plan in place to have lots of fun with Nico over the winter and make him ready to be big brave boy in the Spring to continue his education.
