Here is our latest arrival at the Donkey Shelter.
This is a big gelded jack, rather old. Yet, he kept an enthusiastic child’s temperament and one cannot stop from loving him.
His story is also somewhat sad. All his life he was a working animal, used to pull the cart in all agricultural chores, and he belonged to an elderly man that was taken into hospital severely ill. His family hated having to look after the donkey, and we told that unless we collected him within the next few days, he would go with the meat dealer that supplies Lisbon Zoo.
We met this big donkey, very undernourished, dehydrated, and covered in mange. I had never seen such a bad case… The detached relationship between this people was so blatant, that the poor animal doesn’t even have a name!

His skin is scarred and covered in mange. We had to de-worm him and to inject him against mange. Now he is in quarantine, also receiving medicine baths for his skin parasites. This is the second case of a donkey with mange that we received in a month. All due to lack of hygiene and care.

But he is a real character. Always inquisitive and chirpy.

He is a real sweetie, a very, very special boy.

We are planning to keep him with us for the rest of his life.

So, would anybody like to adopt Mr. X??????

In fact, because he has no name, as a fund raising idea, we could all do a Name the Donkey Competition, and the winning name would get a free Adoption.
How could we organise this? Ideas?

Love this one! Mischief, in the good sense. Who could resist his charm??? He strikes me as a ladies’ man!

Poor little fella, he's fell on his hooves at last.

Wel done Maria, it's wonderful that you were able to step in and save him from becoming lion fodder.

So, imagine we open a new thread for this competition and each naming will cost £2, paid into our PayPal account.

1. People name the donkey and then I list the names to be voted by members. Right???
Is this the idea???  Embarrassed

Ah he's adorable. Well done for all your hard work, Maria, I'm sure your problems will come right in the end if you persevere.

Name the donkey is a great idea.  hug

well you set up a closing date and then you could just put all the names in a hat and draw one out or make up a list and then pick one........
