Our sweet, kind, beautiful girl has left us...
Ginger was a sheltie cross who came into my life in December of 1994. I was living alone and decided that I wanted a doggie of my own... I visited all the local shelters and at the end of a row of cages at our county pound, there she was - her tipped ears, bright eyes and huge smile, spinning in circles. "I'll have to think about her..." I told the warden. I went home and that very night I dreamt of her and in the dream I had named her. She came home with me the next day, with her new kitty friend Tortie and the rest is history.
She was truly a special girl - she had that way about her that some dogs have. Even people who didn't like dogs or feared dogs ended up on their knees next to her within a moment of their meeting. She loved everyone - children, cats, other dogs. She made our lives so much richer for having been with us. Whenever we could, we took her with us - when we had to move overseas for work, she came, too, and weathered the jet lag better than we did. Always happiest just to be with us, whereever we happened to be.
We miss you girlie... your soft, silky head under our hands, the jingle of your tags, the tick tick tick of your toenails up and down the hall and most of all, your silly smile that greeted us every day. Run free, girl, at the Bridge - where your eyes are once again bright, your ears can hear the tiniest rustle and the word cancer has never been spoken. We'll meet you there.
