Chance used to do the wall of death when cantering, she ran into canter both riden and on the lunge and its really fast and unbalanced- although her trot and walk has improved her canter is improving but I though clicker could help.

Last week I used the clicker to reward transition into canter. chance picked up really quickly and is really focused on my click where she stops quickly and turns towards me, then turns her head away (no mugging Cheesy) , bless after the first few times of getting a treat she took herself back out on the circle to offer more canter!

transitions are great now (no running) and as a result her speed has reduced and she is doing 3-4 strides of lovely canter (then on click its canter- halt turn!) I have had both my daughter and friend sit on her and have repeated this with them on pairing my words with the aids for canter and she has responded well. 9 yr old daughter loves the fast stop and turn in!

where do I go now?

1 extend number of strides?
2 work on canter - trot transitions?

also during a session should I work on exclusively one behaviour or can I change what I'm asking for? ie click for transitions then change and click for keeping going?

I generally go with the model of doing it immediately until the horse cottons on and consistantly offers what I'm looking for, then I'll drag it out an increasing number of strides for something like you're doing.  Might not be the professional method though.  Depending on what it is, if it's something we just have a complete bugbear over I'll work it pretty heavy in a session and then quit and groom or feed.  If we're just plain working I'll switch stuff up as I've found if I keep doing the exact same maneuver she'll get sour after awhile and start making her own fun, which usually isn't as fun for me  :P
