A Little Project!

when i turned him out this morning he quite subdued, and when he trotted off .........  hopping lame, really swinging that leg and hiking his hip!

i did tell the owner tonite but she was unconcerned ........... but, hey, whats new?  :(

i also told her this morning, before turnout, he was standing with his hinds cramped under him ...............

she really doesnt give a d**n about those horses!

i thank EVERYONE for all their kind words and support, without all you guys on here and liz at the yard i'd be out of my mind by now!  :blush:

This saga is becoming unbearably sad.   Have you tried the BHS Welfare Officer?   I am not a great fan of the BHS but our local Welfare Officer is very, very effective.   She herself brought RSPCA out to a case near me and of course was able to explain things which were not obvious to him as a non horse person.   Surely there must be somebody who will care.   If you tell the RSPCA you will get the Press to come they will be there in 2 minutes flat.   They enjoy publicity!

a little update.........

via a friend of a friend of a friend, and all reliable with no axe to grind!   , i have discovered that little project has done nothing since leaving the racing yard!    ............ i thought as much!  :blush:

so much for the owners insistence that before he moved here he was hacking, schooling on the flat, over poles and grids!!!..............

now that he has had all the heating foods removed from his bucket rations he is the most settled of the four on turnout!      and being more settled in his head has manifested itself in less of lameness problem!!! still looks like a hatrack tho ...........  :(  :(

next part of the mission is to get owner to remove heating foods from the others rations!!! not keen on boxing matches with 16.2hh tb's ...

Well it looks like the owners may at last be taking some of your advice on.  Fingers crossed little project gets better soon enough so he can find a really nice new mummy or daddy to look after him.

parisdiamond, thanks for the enquiry!

poor little chap is still lame, but thankfully not as bad as he was! needless to say vet hasnt seen him since his initial visit.  i dont think the problem in his stifle will be fully resolved until its treated properly ...... but as the rspca pointed out, he's been seen by a vet and thats good enough for them!

although he's getting plenty of grass, condition-wise he's no different ............. still a walking hat-rack    

all four shoes are off but not even a pasture trim so he's not comfortable on his feet either    

i love him to bits, he's such a sweetie ........      and the two others tb's she's got! if i won the lottery i'd buy them all!  :blush:

Ahh, I bet he's grateful for small mercies though.  At least he's had some sunshine to enjoy recently.  Sorry his outlook isn't more rosy though.

he and his tb mates are soooooooooo gorgeous and misunderstood .......... only tonite owner brought little project in amidst much yelling and cursing cos he was bit excited .......... dont think shes ever thought of a quiet hand on his neck with fingers scratching gently ......... works a treat!  

oh to win the lottery and take em all away from her for a nice life where they can do something to relieve their boredom!

me 'n liz tried to persuade her to keep little project barefoot and to take the remaining shoes off the other chestnut gelding (whos got hinds on cos he threw the fronts!) ......... but the big fella dont do shoeless    ........ wouldnt have it that its all in the trim and dont think she believed me when i said my boy was 100% on tarmac and grass and getting better over rough ground!  the pony is shod and the big liver mare is barefoot cos no-one can ride her cos she dont like a bit in her mouth!!!!!!! dont think owner knows about bitless bridles .........  :blink:

as ive said on this thread before ........... there are some folk who shouldnt even have rocking horses let alone real live horses!
