I just wanted to add that sometimes it helps to see WHY something doesn't work...and to do that on occasion you have to (briefly...and only if it's not going to hurt the horse!) try it...and it may give you a better understanding of what you should be doing...

But definately pick and choose what works.  And just because her dressage instruction is a bit iffy, doesn't necessarily mean her jumping instruction is (although it might so question anything you're not sure of)!

Hmm, when you say you use your seat a lot in Classical dressage, what do you mean? I use weight aids, and the seat as a retarding/collecting aid, and cadencing, but never for impulsion/driving.

 oops! sorry, kinda forgot about this one!
Yes, that was what I was refering to, weight aids etc. but not for driving.  I am terrible about putting thoughts into words  :P

The first trainer I started riding with talked about having a "driving seat".  Nobody really harped on it there, the phrase was just tossed around to sound good.  Looking back I think the phrase was used as a quick fix method to make the rider feel like they were doing something.  The more I think about it the phrase sounds good to new riders, the most you ordinarily do with your tush is sit on it.  When you drive something you are in control, so, suddenly the trainer is telling you that you have a good "driving seat" and the novice feels like they are doing something important.  I know I did.

Thats one of the reasons this site was such an eye opener.  When I first read about EE on the NR site I was skepticle but curious.  After browsing around here I was amazed that you could actualy use you seat for transitions, directions, and collection,  I was taught it was all in the hands and legs.

From what I have learned about people, many are open minded but following an incorrect trainer because that is all they have known.  If you give them the chance to learn and change many will take it, many will not but so many people out there just don't know there is an alternative.

humm, a bit of a ramble there, sorry
