My frined has been coming over a couple of time a week to help me with my horse.  Initially she rode him, then  I started riding him again (after a two month break) and things were going well.  I have been hacking him out with another lady at weekends aswell.

My friend was due to come over this morning, but phoned to say she was poorly.  So I decided to tack him up and ride in the school ON MY OWN!  Cheesy   Something I haven't done in over 18 months!  He was so good.  I didn't push it, just walked around, did a bit of trot and lots of transitions to get him listening to me.  All was going so well, I thought we might try a bit of canter, but when i asked he started giving signs of bucking (he does sometimes do this!   ) so decided to leave it and stick to walk and trot.  Did 25 minutes, but was just so pleased!  Cheesy

I have had my horse for 20 months now, and he was sold to me as suitable for a novice, bombproof and great in traffic!  Unfortunatley none of the above apply!

When I first had him I fell off at least once a month!   As a novice first time hosre owner the experience really knocked my confidence.  I have had no end of problems on the ground, including rearing, planting, kicking out, the list goes on!  It took me until August of this year until I could bring him in out of the field without feeling frightened!

He is not a bad horse, just very lacking in confidence!  Unfortunately not a good thing for me, at the time!  I have overcome the ground problems now, and Merdian and I now have a much better relationship.  I have learnt so much from him and my  horsey skills and riding have improved no end over the last 20 months.

I am just so pleased, as riding on my own was one of my real fears.  So this was a really big day for me!  Cheesy

So for such a long post, but I am just so chuffed with myself and my gorgeous boy!  Cheesy

That's fantastic, well done!
I can understand your joy, I'm going through a confidence crisis combined with a green horse, it's no fun but feels amazing when you can start to see light at the end of the tunnel.

Keep us updated! With pics  Smiley

Hey well done and good for you for sticking with it! It's never easy as my friend who use to own my mare before me, who i go out riding with can't believe sometimes that she is the same horse that she had! Cheesy But I did know that she wasn't an easy horse to start with!!
And well done again and keep with it as you'll get breakthrough after breakthrough which is such a nice feeling ain't it? Cheesy

Days like today make me realise why I have perseverd with him!  There have been so many time when I thought it would be better if  i had put him up for sale.  But I always felt he deserved more.  He has not had the nicest of lives and I felt that I needed to persevere and give him a chance!  Will try and put a bit of vid of my friend riding.  He has had an ongoing back issue which we are now sorting, so he finds it difficult on one rein as you will see.  He has been treated regularly with chiropracter and Bowen to overcome the problems and has improved significantly!  Cheesy

Will try and get my super son on the camera at the weekend to take some photos of me and Meridian!  Cheesy

It's an upside doen omega sign done through Farmkey before i bought him.  Supposed to signify he has been microchipped1  Only trouble is I don't know anyone else who knows what it means! He is registered with Farmkey but makes me wonder if it worth it if no one knows what the freezemark means!

ETA it looks like a horse shoe you may be right!  He has been checked ny my vet who can find nothing wrong with him.  What does a Mocromark look like exactly?

Where is the fireworks/party smilie??????? Nix, we need more smilies!!!!!!!!!!!

Sara, I'm so, so, so pleased for you. Here speaks Queen of Wimps!
You did wonderful with your boy, and when you think how conned you were to begin with, and your determination to stick by him and to overcome your hurdles together... another landmark.
Maybe, maybe, he was meant to come into your life as a teacher... one day somebody said to me about Pegs "good things never come easy"... how quite true. Smiley Meridian is teaching you a lot, not just about horse management and riding, but about yourself, your strengths, your boundaries, your real self, and values, like loyalty, hope, perseverance.. and more. Only you can tell.

He is mighty beautiful horse. He is there to help you in many ways.
Treasure him. He is there for you. B)

I knew what it meant!!

I am argueing with myself about having Grace freezemarked - I have even booked her a personalised mark - but I don't really want to have it done.

I have thought about the Micromark as its smaller but hadn't thought of having it done on the shoulder. I like it. Its less conspicuous than a freezemark (which is both good and bad) but is also an identifying mark - hmmmmmmmm!

Sorry, won't take away from your happy thread and turn it into a freezemarking query ..... where was I? Oh yes .... well done!

Toni,  I inheritied him with the freezemark.  Didn't know what it meant!  Farmkey told me it was to signify he was microchipped.  It looks like an upsidedown horseshoe!  I think it is quite sweet and a real talking point as i have never seen another horse with one!  It would be a good thing if people knew what it meant but they don't. so I wonder if it was worth putting him through it!     Maybe in time the horseshoe will mean something!  Cheesy

Toni, I already know Cosgan, but I have such a c**p internet connection at home, unless we have EE smiles, I cannot get them...

BTW, why don't you simply microchip Grace? It's what horse owners use here. On studs firebrand.:ouch:
