All that and a bag of chips!

I guess what I'm asking is, what is the best substitute for the Pelham at shows?  I don't just want to use my french link, I want something that closely resembles the feel for his mouth and for consistancy.

Pelhams are permitted in anything except dressage competitions, 1morejump, perfectly accepted bits for showing classes here in the UK- remind me where you are?

Unfortunatley some shows specify that certain bit are not allowed!     I only realised this as my kids pony has a kimblewick and some of the schedules say the kids ridden classes need to be in a snaffle!  STUPID PEOPLE!

I think there should be a sticky thread for this topic!!

How about a baucher mullen mouth? Should be the same as a pelham but without the curb.

And just an aside, don't get caught up in only being able to ride in the pelham, it is a useful bit, but not the only one out there. I got stuck in the "ah my horse only goes in a pelham thing" with Blackie for a while. Took me a while to realise that it is my riding that does the job and makes the different, not the bit. Of course they always have their favourite bits, but as long as it fits your horses mouth correctly it shouldn't make that much difference. But of course for some horses a change in bit will make all the difference.

Just don't want you to get stuck where I did, there is a multitude of different bits out there to try.

Heather, I'm in the US.  The USDF doesn't allow Pelhams <_< .

Funky, I hope I don't get stuck in a rut with him but due to his previous owner new bits can have a rather adverse effect so I would just as soon find one that he relates better to.  In case I just fall off the planet I think it is best that he goes in multiple bits but it is a slow process to get him used to a new one.

mullen mouth snaffle - same in the mouth as mullen mouth pelham, only without the extra "bits".... seems logical to me, anyway!
