Has anyone here seen this magazing before?
It is called Horse of Kings. They focus on Andalusions, Friesians, Lippizans, and Lusitanos in the magazine and this month the articles are on finding a trainer, a stallion guide, white line disease, travel, and a Friesian article.
The really good part is the Classicle dressage journal in it.
CDJ is published in HoK every issue. CDj has a very nice philosophy, not focusing on training for competion. It is a rather expensive magazine considering they only do 4 issues a year :( . But what an issue you will get! I really like the HoK.
HoK-

CDJ-

Read through that first page that comes up for CDJ, it really explains their philosophy.

I love the look of that magazine ~ it seems to be about £6? Is that right do you know. Are you in the Uk or the Usa? I will have to find out if I can order it over here! My partner buys magazines that are the same price so I can figure so can I LOL

not to add a sour note here - but i paid for a year's subscription back in 2005 and have only received TWO magazines
, issue 1 & 2 for '05 (where is 3 & 4???).
i have sent an email to them, asking what the bloody heck is going on!
not pleased with THAT.
however the mag is GORGEOUS, with great articles.
i do recommend it.

Yes, I get the magazine. It's a WHOLE heap better now that it has the Classical Dressage Journal in it, but it's maddening how late it always is -- still, they do give credit for all four issues, so you'll get your money's worth in the end. I noticed that there is in fact a new issue out, but I haven't received my hard copy yet.
In the last issue, from last winter, I seem to remember, there was an article by JP Giacomini on the history of piaffe and passage, and he headed it up with a photo of my Xino's sire doing what JP described as an almost perfect piaffe! I'm SO hoping that Xino will grow up to be just like his Daddy!
And speaking of whom, Xino had his third birthday on Wednesday, and I took the day off to take photos and do a video shoot of him and Comet racing aroudn a neighbor's arena. He still looks a little funny as he's taking his sweet time looking more mature, but you can see him at the following page on my smugmug site:

I'm afraid I messed up the exposure, but luckily a little Photoshopping came to the rescue so they are passable quality.

I noticed there was a new issue too, and I didn't have a hard copy :( . If you email them they are really good about sending you a replacement. I loved that article on the Piaffe and Passage, the pics were absolutly lovely. If your baby turns out at all like his father you will be really lucky! He is very pretty, but keep in mind that greys can change color several times before all is said and done.

Xino is beautiful! i bet he'll change a LOT in the next few years though.....i really liked the "Ugly Duckling to Beautiful Swan" article in the last issue (was reassuring, as my yearling is u-g-l-y right now!
).
THAT'S XINO'S SIRE????
WOW
of all of the photos in that issue, THAT was my favorite one!
piaffe with just a halter/healcollar, and leadrope - and the horse is barefoot too!
btw i emailed HoK, and they wrote back very quickly to say they'd send me a 'replacement issue' - it is frustrating to find out there's a
new
issue out, not having received it <_< .

Yes, and he's changing VERY slowly, so I'll have a lot of fun with his coloring over the years! But I was talking more about his conformation. I think he is the same "type" as his father, but in order to look anything really like him, he needs to develop the correct muscling, and that will probably only come with correct work which I'm hoping that we can continue this summer.
I guess I'll go and email the HOK people right now -- funny how it hasn't been received by so many people...

PS Off to Wyoming tomorrow morning to spend a few days at a dude ranch where our private foundation is holding its annual board retreat so I'll get to play with the horses, play a game or two of tennis, fish, hike, photograph (when I'm not working, of course...!) I just hope like the dickens that it's cooler there than here -- we haven't had our usual spring rains so the pastures are totally parched and crunchy, and the fire hazard is going through the roof.

I love this magazine! I have still not received the latest copy, though I am waiting for a DVD and a book to arrive in Australia from the US at the moment and all seem very slow......
